Dr. Basho M. Nouri, a lecturer and educational consultant at the University of the cihan – Sulaymaniyah, participated in the conference “K-12 and Beyond: Enhancing Education and Learning,” hosted by the American University of Kurdistan (AUK). During the conference, which attracted the attention of a large number of educators in the Kurdistan region, Dr. Basho M. Nouri conducted an interactive workshop.
The workshop focused directly on the main theme of the conference, which is improving teaching and learning, by providing a solid multidisciplinary framework for teachers from first through twelfth grade. The aim of the workshop was to equip teachers and administrators with practical strategies based on academic evidence to move beyond traditional models of student behavior and to build an inclusive and humane environment. Dr. Bashaw M. Nouri emphasized the important relationship between the classroom, psychological well-being, and academic success, highlighting reform practices as key tools for instructional methods.
During the session, participants discussed how small changes in daily interactions—such as shifting from control to relationship building and from punishment to problem solving—can turn passive learners into active participants. Dr. Bashaw M. Nouri guided the audience through hands-on activities, including managing a ‘visit circle’ to ensure every student is heard, as well as using ‘corrective questions’ for shared responsibility. The workshop focused on small, manageable steps that teachers can immediately implement in their classrooms.
The session was praised for its practical and culturally appropriate approach, leading to a lively discussion among the audience on adapting these strategies for both the public and private school sectors in the Kurdistan Region. Dr. Basho M. Nouri’s participation in this important conference underscores the commitment of the region’s education sector to adopting innovative, student-centered methods that promote human dignity, mutual care, and a lifelong love of learning.
