Medical Biochemical Analysis Students Conduct Health Screening and Awareness Session at Nursing Home

On Thursday, 20 November 2025, a group of third-level students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil carried out a practical community visit to a local nursing home, where they conducted a series of essential medical tests and provided personalized health awareness advice to the residents.

The visit was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hawri Sami, Head of the Department, and accompanied by Laboratory Assistant Ms. Dunia. The students were warmly received by Mr. Sanger Jamal, Director of the nursing home.

During the visit, the students measured blood glucose levels to identify potential cases of diabetes or hypoglycemia. Residents with abnormal readings were advised to seek further medical evaluation. They also conducted blood pressure monitoring to detect hypertension or hypotension, explaining that uncontrolled high blood pressure can increase the risk of stroke and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, the students performed oxygen saturation (SpO₂) tests to assess respiratory and circulatory efficiency.

After completing the examinations, the students provided targeted health awareness advice tailored to the elderly residents. They emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced diet low in salt, sugar, and fat; staying adequately hydrated; engaging in age-appropriate light physical activity; strictly adhering to prescribed medications; and regularly checking vital signs at home using simple digital devices. They also advised residents to reduce stress and avoid excessive caffeine intake.
