On October 15, 2025, the College of Nursing at Cihan University–Duhok organized a workshop entitled “A Comparative Analysis of Nursing Leadership: Perspectives from the United States and Kurdistan.” The event presented by Ms. Natalie Richard, a nursing leader from a U.S. based healthcare organization, and Ms. Husna Abdulrazzaq Yousif, Assistant Manager at the Maternity Hospital in Duhok.

The visiting delegation, accompanied by Dr. Layla M. Salih, met with Prof. Dr. Zeravan Abdulmuhsen Asaad, President of Cihan University, to discuss the characteristics and roles of effective nursing leadership.

During the workshop, the speakers explored key leadership competencies essential for nurses, such as effective communication, decision-making, and adaptability. They also examined the challenges nurse leaders face within different healthcare systems in both Kurdistan and the United States.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where participants exchanged valuable insights and discussed strategies to enhance nursing leadership and management in diverse clinical settings.

As part of Cihan University-Duhok’s efforts to promote the use of artificial intelligence applications in academic and research fields, the Department of Computer Science is holding a workshop in Monday , 6/10/2025 entitled:

“Smart Research Assistant for Academic Staff and Students”

The workshop aims to introduce participants to the latest artificial intelligence applications in the fields of academic publishing and research citations, highlighting smart tools that help researchers and students:

• Organize and manage scientific references and citations.

• Improve the quality of academic and research writing.

• Support the process of selecting appropriate scientific journals for publication.

• Facilitate the search for reliable scientific sources.

• Accelerate the process of preparing articles and research papers according to international standards.

On October 4, 2025, the Departments of Medical Microbiology and Clinical Biochemistry at Cihan University – Duhok organized a workshop entitled: “Guidelines and Basic Principles for Writing a Graduation Research Project.”

The workshop was prepared and presented by Mr. Sherwan Hussein Darwish, Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology.

The workshop provided valuable insights and practical guidance on how to successfully plan, organize, and complete graduation projects.

At the end of the session, students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the steps involved in preparing an academic research paper.

The College of Pharmacy at Cihan University–Duhok celebrated World Pharmacists Day by organizing a workshop that highlighted the history of pharmacy, the ethics of the profession, and the major branches of the field, along with pathways for specialization in various pharmacy-related careers. The workshop also emphasized the vital roles pharmacists play in different scientific and professional sectors. In recognition of their outstanding efforts and achievements, certificates of appreciation were awarded to top-performing and active students of the college. In recognition of their efforts and achievements during the 2024/2025 academic year, certificates of appreciation were awarded to the top-performing and most active students of the college.

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil, in cooperation with Huawei Company, held a drawing competition titled “GoPaint” using iPads. Twenty-five contestants from the Departments of Architectural Engineering and Interior Design Engineering participated in the event.

The competition was honored by the presence of the University President, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi, and the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Ayad Hazim Hasan. The University President praised the students’ participation and expressed admiration for the quality of the drawings submitted by the contestants. A jury of three members evaluated the students’ work.

At the conclusion of the competition, the top three winners were announced and awarded iPads, along with other electronic devices for all participating students. It was emphasized that the collaboration between Cihan University and Huawei Company should continue to facilitate various activities across the university’s different departments.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Cihan University-Erbil held a workshop on Embedded Systems Technologies & IoT at the Conference Hall of the university, sponsored by Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi, Cihan University-Erbil President.

The workshop witnessed the participation of Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Sattar Abdulkareem and representatives from various universities including Cihan University Duhok and Teshik University Sulaymaniyah, with the attendance of 178 participants, in addition to representatives from companies such as Uruk and its branch in Sulaymaniyah, and Erbil Makers Hub.

The scientific programs of the workshop included six lectures on artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things topics. M.M. Adel Hussein Muhammad, an assistant lecturer at Cihan University-Erbil, presented about AIoT, focusing on the new and modern horizons after integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT) to become artificial intelligence of things. Additionally, Mr. Mohammed Al-Sada, the Director of Erbil Makers Hub, gave a lecture titled The Power of Embedded Systems in Research and Innovation. Also, Dalin Mohammed, a fourth-year student from the Department of Informatics and Software Engineering, presented a topic on Voice Assistant Chat, where he reviewed the basic components of the system and the required protocols that address artificial intelligence.

The workshop then included an exhibition of projects by the students from the Department of Software Engineering and Informatics, where applied models of embedded systems and robots were displayed alongside their scientific posters.

The College of Arts and Letters and College of Education at Cihan University – Erbil organized a specialized training course on Innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Mastering Educational Sciences, English Language, and Translation Skills. The training course aimed to enhance the professional development of academic staff and empower them to use AI applications in the educational process to enhance the quality of education.

This course, which was held from March 9, 2025, to March 20, 2025, at Cihan Academy Hall, consisted of five sessions. The first session, titled Artificial Intelligence in Education: Personalized Learning and Assessment, was presented by Dr. Samrand Amini from the Department of General Education.

Session two, which was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Jaafar from the Department of Computer Science, was titled The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching English. Moreover, the third session on The Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Academic Research for the Departments of General Education, English, and Translation was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Jaafar from the Department of Computer Science.

Additionally, Assistant Lecturer Yazan Saifuddin Mahmoud from the Department of Software Engineering and Informatic, presented his training course on The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Translation. The last session, titled Tools to Enhance the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Learning, was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Abd Aoun from the Department of General Education.

This course has several advantages. It was part of the university’s efforts to help academic staff keep pace with technological advancements and equip them with modern educational tools. Not only did it transfer knowledge, but it also contributed to building the concept of innovation within educational institutions, which will positively impact students’ experiences and their readiness for the future job market.

It gave academic staff more personalized and interactive learning experiences and the opportunity to assess students’ performance and track their academic progress.

This training course represents a significant step in Cihan University – Erbil’s journey towards digital transformation in education. By enabling academic staff to utilize AI tools, the university reaffirms its commitment to keeping up with technological breakthroughs and preparing its students for a bright future. These actions are in line with the university’s vision of building an integrated educational system that aligns with the requirements of the 21st century.

Cihan University-Erbil recently organized a dynamic two-week training course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) specifically designed for its teaching staff. The course aimed to equip educators with the latest advancements and applications of AI in academia.

Dlovan Amjad Badin, a third-year student from the International Relations and Diplomacy Department at Cihan University-Erbil, participated in organizing population census workshops in Iraq on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. He contributed by delivering training programs and practical lectures to those who will be involved in conducting the population census.

During the session, he provided comprehensive information on the key procedures followed in such nationwide censuses, including essential data that must be collected from individuals, how to design the census forms, and how to ensure they are filled out accurately and correctly by the enumerators.

The student also gave a detailed explanation of the best ways census workers should interact with citizens, emphasizing that courtesy, respect, and asking questions clearly and directly help obtain all the precise information needed to carry out the population census in Iraq successfully.

The course, held in the conference hall of the Ankawa Royal Hotel in Erbil, took place from October 6 to October 10, 2024. It was a joint effort between the Department of Biochemical Analysis and the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Cihan University – Erbil.

The course was under supervision of  Assistant.Prof. Dr. Enas Diaa, a lecturer in the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy, who provided both theoretical and practical lectures on strategic planning, crisis management, and the application of artificial intelligence in strategic plans aimed at rebuilding Iraqi state institutions. This initiative highlights Cihan University – Erbil’s ongoing commitment to organizing such activities across various fields, with the goal of serving the community and contributing to the development of modern state institutions.

The training course organized by Cihan University – Erbil, in partnership with the Alaistikshaf Company, exemplifies the university’s dedication to enhancing the skills of administrative leaders in Iraq. By addressing critical topics such as strategic planning, crisis management, and the integration of artificial intelligence, this initiative contributes to the broader effort of rebuilding and modernizing state institutions.
