Media Department Students Conduct Awareness Activity on Electronic Media Safety

der the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismael Mawlood, students from the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an intensive awareness activity on electronic media safety on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Ahmad Raikani Girls’ School in the Bahrka district.

They were received by the school principal, Ms. Shilan Mohieddin Ahmed, who expressed her profound gratitude and appreciation to the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil for its continuous initiatives in organizing awareness activities and seminars for school students. She emphasized the critical importance of such initiatives, especially given the increasing interaction of students and youth with communication tools and electronic media in today’s world.

The activity commenced with a lecture delivered by Zina Sharif, a fourth-year student in the Media Department, who discussed the psychological and social impacts of cyberbullying on students. She provided a comprehensive explanation of personal protection methods and strategies against electronic violence, emphasizing the need to be cautious about inappropriate comments, threats, and fake news prevalent on social media networks. She also outlined the procedures for filing complaints with the relevant authorities.

This was followed by a presentation of a detailed legal overview by another fourth-year student, Barzi Azad. He reviewed the provisions of Law No. 8 of 2008 concerning the misuse of communication devices in the Kurdistan Region and explained the types of penalties imposed on violators. This segment specifically targeted tenth-grade students at the school, aiming to raise their awareness of the dangers of electronic media misuse and encourage them to adopt responsible practices when using these platforms.

Finally, the supervising instructor thanked the school administration and staff for their warm reception, expressing hope that the Cihan University-Erbil students had provided the school’s students with valuable and beneficial information.

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, the students of the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University-Erbil commemorated the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a community-centered celebration at Sami Abdulrahman Park.

On Monday, December 15, 2025, the Department of Anesthesia Techniques at the College of Health Technologies – Cihan University–Erbil organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Common Abdominal Conditions and Recent Approaches to Management.”

The workshop was held under the supervision of the Vice President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayad Hazim Hasan, and was attended by a distinguished group of heads of scientific departments, faculty members, and students from the Department of Anesthesia Techniques.

The workshop featured two specialized scientific sessions. The first session, entitled “Common Abdominal Surgical Conditions and Contemporary Surgical Management,” was delivered by Dr. Farman Yasin Sharif, a specialist in general surgery. In his presentation, Dr. Sharif reviewed the most common abdominal surgical conditions, highlighting clinical and radiological diagnostic approaches as well as the latest surgical management strategies in accordance with modern therapeutic protocols.

The second session, entitled “Recent Advances in Anesthetic Management of Abdominal Conditions,” was presented by Dr. Saman Hussein Abdulrahman, a specialist in pediatric surgery. His lecture focused on recent developments in anesthetic management, emphasizing pre-anesthetic patient evaluation, the selection of appropriate anesthetic techniques, and the role of advanced anesthesia technologies in minimizing complications and improving surgical outcomes.

At the end of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of organizing such specialized scientific activities in supporting the academic process and strengthening interdisciplinary integration. They highlighted the role of these workshops in enhancing clinical knowledge, promoting collaboration among medical specialties, and showcasing the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of common abdominal conditions, with particular emphasis on modern surgical and anesthetic practices in contemporary medicine.

The Headship of the Anesthesia Technology Department at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific and awareness visit to Erinkoy Girls’ School on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the link between academic learning and practical application.

The visit involved five students from the Anesthesia Technology Department and was conducted under the supervision of Lab Assistant Mirzan Mustafa Omar, in coordination with the school’s administration and teaching staff. The delegation was warmly received by the school principal, Engineer Arezoo Khalil Kamal, reflecting the spirit of cooperation between educational institutions.

During the visit, an awareness lecture was delivered to eleventh-grade students, introducing the Anesthesia Technology Department and highlighting its vital role in daily life, particularly within operating rooms. The session also covered basic medical topics, including blood pressure measurement methods, blood glucose monitoring, and the use of pulse oximeters, with an emphasis on the importance of healthy lifestyle practices.

The visit also included a practical component, during which school students were trained on how to use the medical devices and were given the opportunity to apply what they learned under direct supervision. The students showed strong interaction and interest throughout the activities, with many expressing enthusiasms for learning more about medical fields in the future.

At the end of the visit, the supervising staff member expressed appreciation to the administration and teaching staff of Erinkoy Girls’ School for their cooperation and warm reception, emphasizing the importance of such activities in promoting health awareness and enhancing students’ educational experiences.
