On Saturday, 16-11-2024, in the university seminar hall, the ASA Department organized a scientific seminar titled: The 2024 General Population Census for the Kurdistan Region: An Important and Risky Process!
In the session, two topics were presented and moderated by Dr. Asso Hamaseen. The first topic was presented by Mr. P.I.D. Ismail Najm Al-Din Zangan, titled “Constitutional Organization and Normalization of the General Population Census Process in Iraq.” In his presentation, he focused on all constitutional and legal provisions related to the process, including Article 110 of Article 9 of the Iraqi Constitution and both federal regulations (the General Census for Residents and Settlements No. 40 of 2008 and Geographic Information System Statistics No. 32 of 2023). In light of these texts, he explained the importance of the census and highlighted the risks that may arise from this process, especially concerning uninhabited areas.
The second topic by P.Y.D., prepared by Ibrahim Ahmed, titled (Numbers of the General Sessions of the Iraqi Parliament 2024 in International Decisions and Recommendations). In line with the topic, all international decisions that had been made and were important for resolving the issues of liberated areas were reviewed before any other inquiries from the regions, according to the numbers of the general sessions of the Parliament, and particularly for resolving internal border issues in Iraq as part of the work of this international organization.
At the end of the session, their questions and clarifications were prepared to be submitted to the committee members, who in turn provided their answers and additional clarifications.
