On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, students from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Cihan University-Erbil spread cancer awareness in Erbil Bazaar under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein. The initiative aimed to inform the public about the importance of early detection, cancer risk factors, and the role of nutrition in cancer prevention.

The students engaged with shop owners, visitors, and passersby and handed out brochures containing key information on common types of cancer, symptoms to watch for, and lifestyle changes that help reduce the risk of developing the disease. Additionally, the brochures explained the impact of smoking, processed foods, obesity, and lack of physical activity on cancer development. They also highlighted the benefits of consuming antioxidant-rich foods, maintaining a balanced diet, and leading an active lifestyle to support overall health and reduce cancer risks.

This awareness campaign allowed students to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting, actively contributing to public health education. It also provided them with an opportunity to enhance their communication and outreach skills while making a positive impact on the community by promoting cancer awareness and prevention strategies.

The Department of Medical Laboratory Concludes the “Foundation of Microbiology” Course

On, June 27, 2026, in an academic ceremony attended by the Head of the Department and all faculty members, the “Scientific Zakat” training course titled “Foundation of Microbiology” was successfully concluded. The course was organized and delivered by the faculty members, Asst. Lect. Hozan Qasim and Asst. Lect. Sherwan Hussein.

During the ceremony, certificates of participation were presented to the attendees. Furthermore, the department’s presidency commended the instructors and wished the participants continued success in their educational journey and the development of their practical and hands-on skills.

A Lecture on Technology and Artificial Intelligence Presented at Khani Cultural and Media Center

As part of the ongoing activities of the Technology and Artificial Intelligence Course and within the framework of volunteer services provided by the “Zakāt al-Ilm” Foundation at Cihan University-Duhok, Mr. Bilal Hikmat Rasheed presented a lecture on August 9, 2026. The session focused on the importance of technology and artificial intelligence and their impact on various fields of work, aiming to develop and enhance the skills of the participants, who are staff members of the Khani Cultural and Media Center.

Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation Organizes a Seminar on “First Aid” for Participants of the 5th Pedagogical Course

In line with the continuous directives of the University President (Prof. Dr. Zeravan Abdul-Muhsin Asaad) to emphasize awareness and development programs for all segments of society, and as part of the ongoing activities of the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation at Cihan University-Duhok, a special seminar titled “First Aid” was presented on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The seminar was conducted by Mr. Bassam Shawkat and Mr. Karzan Ismail, lab instructors in the medical laboratories at the university, for the participants of the 5th Pedagogical Course. The session covered in detail the core principles of first aid, urgent procedures for saving patient lives, and effective protocols for managing emergency situations to protect community health.
