Biomedical Sciences Department Students Commemorate Anfal Genocide at Dunya Mixed Primary School

On the 37th anniversary of the Anfal genocide, third-year students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a commemorative seminar at Dunya Mixed Primary School. The event, which took place on Monday 14th April 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Zahraakhan Maroof Taher, was organized as part of Memorial Day activities.

The students were warmly received by Mrs. Parwa Nuraldeen Kaka Mustafa, the school director, The event, held in the school hall, was attended by teachers and students from grades 7 and 8.

The program began with the playing of the Kurdish national anthem, followed by a seminar presented by the Biomedical Sciences Department students. During their presentation, they screened a documentary film highlighting the events of the Anfal campaign—an operation carried out by Ba’athist Iraq from February to September 1988. The event was aimed at suppressing Kurdish resistance and involved the systematic targeting of rural Kurdish communities to eliminate rebel groups and Arabize strategic areas of Kurdistan.

At the conclusion of the event, Mrs. Parwa Nuraldeen Kaka expressed her appreciation to the students for their initiative, noting that the activity served to strengthen national awareness and pride among the younger generation.

On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against ‘Violence Against Women’ campaign, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismail Mawlood, students from the Media Department conducted a seminar at Sharistani Girls School on combating violence against women.

The supervising lecturer and students were warmly received by Ms Runak Yaqoob, the school principal, who expressed her appreciation for the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil for organizing this initiative focusing on raising awareness among students about this important issue.

The seminar began with Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismail highlighting the activities of the 16 Days of Activism campaign and presenting several key points on combating violence against women. Then, third-year student Layar Aza discussed electronic violence targeting women. Following this, another third-year student, Zhilya Hatam, highlighted strategies for self-protection against electronic attacks, which can ultimately lead to violence. At the end of the seminar, second-year student Najwa Rashid introduced hotlines that women can contact when facing electronic violence.

At the end of the activities, Ms Runak Yaqoob thanked the supervising lecturer and students for their efforts and active participation in the campaign.

Continuing the activities of the 16 Days of Activism campaign against violence against women, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, students from the Media Department, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dilan Ismail Mawlood, carried out an awareness activity at Milli Market in the Nawroz neighborhood.

During the activity, Media Department students from Cihan University–Erbil distributed awareness brochures to the public. The brochures focused on identifying electronic violence and its different forms, in addition to outlining methods of self-protection and ways to address online abuse.

As an academic and scientific center, the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil actively participates in awareness campaigns and adopts various methods of delivering educational messages through multiple media tools.

 a course in the field of pedagogy has commenced for a group of Sharabazir educators at Cihan University – Sulaymaniyah, The course is presented by specialized experts in pedagogy, aiming to train teachers on the latest teaching methods and prepare them to transfer their skills to various schools. Cihan University – Sulaymaniya, as an educational institution, always places great importance on building bridges of communication between the university and various sectors of society, especially the education sector, and this event comes within this framework.
