On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil organized a tree-planting campaign at Al-Mutafawwiqat Secondary School for Girls in Erbil.
The campaign involved the participation of a group of first-year students from the department mentioned earlier under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Qusay Al-Salami and Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qader.
Upon arrival, the students, along with their supervisors, were warmly received by Ms. Huda Hamed Mohammed, the school principal. They prepared the soil, then planted and watered the trees, actively contributing to this environmental initiative. Such an initiative was beneficial for the students, as they had a hands-on opportunity to engage in eco-friendly practices while promoting sustainability.
It is important to note that the Business Administration Department at Cihan University-Erbil has consistently led efforts to clean and improve the environment in the Kurdistan region, including solving critical issues such as Conserve Water, Preserve the Planet, Every Drop Counts, Don’t Waste Food, Reduce Your Usage, and Brighten the Future.
To increase the number of trees and greenery in the Kurdistan Region, the head of the Department of Business Administration organized a tree-planting campaign on 120 Meter Street in Erbil. It aimed to enhance green spaces in the area and encourage community participation in environmental activities.
It took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, with the participation of students from various academic stages within the department. It was held under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qadir, and the involvement of Mr. Safin Rashid Ali from the Directorate of Parks Engineering.
At the beginning of the campaign, the necessary materials for planting trees were distributed to the students. During the event, the students actively participated in planting more than 50 trees along 120 Meter Street, contributing to the greening of the area and improving environmental air quality.
At the end of the campaign, they watered the newly planted trees. Assistant Lecturer Hevi then emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Directorate of Parks Engineering in conducting the campaign. She also expressed her gratitude to the members of the Directorate for their support.
The department members congratulated Assistant Lecturer Hevi and the students for their participation and expressed hope for the continuation of such initiatives in the future.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil organized a campaign to support underprivileged families by distributing 25 food baskets. The beneficiaries included underprivileged families, cleaning workers, and street vendors. Under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Hawkar Berdaud, Head of the Department of Business Administration.
Assistant Professor Dr. Qusay Hameed Al-Salami, along with a group of Business Administration students from various academic levels, participated in the campaign. They visited different areas and households to distribute the food baskets, receiving warm appreciation and gratitude from the families for their support.
It is worth noting that the Department of Business Administration has carried out several charitable initiatives over the past years, including Ramadan food basket distributions, as part of the university’s commitment to supporting the local community and promoting social solidarity.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a public awareness campaign to reduce food waste. Under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qadir, the department visited Qaysari Bazaar in Erbil.
The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness within the community about the importance of conserving food and preventing food waste. For this purpose, the academic staff and students of the department prepared and distributed brochures titled, Don’t Waste Food. During the campaign, students emphasized the importance of preserving food and avoiding waste in households and restaurants. They highlighted that food is a vital resource for life and that its conservation has a direct impact on both health and the economy. Additionally, they explained how food waste negatively affects the environment.
The campaign successfully raised community awareness about the importance of food conservation.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, as part of the ongoing charitable activities offered by Cihan University-Erbil to support underprivileged families, the Department of Business Administration organized a campaign to distribute Ramadan baskets, involving a group of third-year students. Under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawkar Qasim Birdawod, Asst. Prof. Dr. Qusay Hameed Al-Salami, and Lecturer Dlovan Wirya Hamadameen.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly received by the school principal, Ms. Bushra Younis Al-Rawi, along with several families of the students. Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawkar Qasim Birdawod, Head of the Department, oversaw the distribution of 25 food baskets to the families of students at Al-Sa’ada Primary School for Girls. Moreover, Dr. Qusay Hameed Al-Salami personally handed over some of the food baskets to the school principal, in an atmosphere filled with appreciation and gratitude. During the event, both the current and previous support provided by the Department of Business Administration to students’ families was acknowledged.
It is worth mentioning that over the past years, the Department of Business Administration has carried out numerous charitable initiatives, including the distribution of Ramadan food baskets, financial assistance for school hall renovations, and the provision of stationery supplies. These efforts reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting education and the local community.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, a large group of students from the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil participated in the launch of the Environmental Preservation Campaign. The event was organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Erbil, Kasnazan region to clean the Monument Area in Erbil.
It was held under the direct support and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Hawkar Qasim Pirdawod, Head of the Business Administration Department, who was also present at the event.
This campaign involved the participation of more than 110 students from various stages of the department mentioned earlier, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qadir, Assistant Professor Dr. Qusay Al-Hamidi, and Assistant Lecturer Raz Azad Jalal. The event was also attended by Engineer Ali Rashid Mustafa, Head of the Kasnazan Municipality, Mr. Saeb Haroon Rashid, Director of Kasnazan Area, Mr. Mohammed Hassan, Head of the Kasnazan Area Committee, and Mr. Hunar Kamal Anwer, Head of the Kasnazan Forestry Office, along with several staff members.
The campaign aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage civic responsibility.
On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Business Administration Department at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a public awareness campaign on Water Conservation. This initiative aimed to educate the community on responsible water utilization practices.
Informative brochures, developed by the department and its students, served as a key component of the campaign’s outreach strategy. Emphasizing the critical need for water preservation, the brochures, bearing the slogan ‘Conserve Water, Preserve the Planet, Every Drop Counts!’, presented data on water waste, such as the significant water loss of up to 20 gallons daily attributed to dripping faucets. Additionally, the materials provided practical strategies for reducing household water consumption. These recommendations included minimizing prompt repair of plumbing leaks, efficient dishwashing techniques, and reducing shower durations and water usage during oral hygiene practices, such as turning off the tap while brushing.
The Business Administration Department students from various academic levels actively participated in distributing informational brochures to residents of the Hay-Askary area in Erbil. This participatory approach facilitated broader dissemination of the campaign’s message and promoted the adoption of water-saving behaviors within the local community.
The campaign was conducted under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawkar Qasim Pirdawod, the department head, and coordinated by Asst. Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qader. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to environmental sustainability by connecting student learning with meaningful community engagement.
As part of its humanitarian and community service efforts, the Department of Business Administration organized a volunteering activity at Hawler Psychiatric Hospital on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
It was conducted under the direct supervision of Dr. Hawkar Qasim Birdawod, Head of the Business Administration Department, and Assistant Lecturer Hevi Muhammad Qader. They were warmly welcomed by the administrative staff of the hospital. Responding to the patients’ requests and with the help of a hospital employee Mr. Farman Nasih Ahmad, sandwiches were prepared and distributed to the patients.
After the visit, the students and the lecturer had the opportunity to tour the hospital. They spoke with the hospital’s administrative staff and healthcare team to understand the patient’s conditions and then engaged in pleasant and supportive conversations with the patients.
It is noteworthy that this charitable initiative is not the first one organized by the Business Administration Department, as similar activities were conducted in previous years.
On Monday, April 7, 2025, second-stage students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University – Erbil organized a community outreach activity at Erbil Maternity Teaching Hospital under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hero Ismael Mohammed. This initiative aligned with the 2025 World Health Day theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.”
The students were warmly received by Mrs. Ahang Abdullah Shwani, the Assistant Director of the hospital. During the visit, the students engaged with new mothers and expectant women, providing important information on infection prevention and the promotion of maternal and infant health.
The awareness campaign focused on essential topics such as hygiene, proper nutrition, and prenatal care key factors in ensuring the health and safety of both mothers and their babies. These efforts aimed to empower patients with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their children during and after pregnancy.
World Health Day, organized annually by the World Health Organization (WHO), adopts a unique theme each year to support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) by 2030. This year’s theme emphasizes the critical importance of early health interventions in building healthier societies.
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, third-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department visited Nanakali Hospital under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omer. It was a charitable initiative to provide emotional support to young patients undergoing treatment by uplifting their spirits as they battle cancer.
The students were warmly received by Dr. Kochar Salih Qadir Bag, Director of the hospital’s Infectious Control Unit. During the visit, they met with the children and their families, offered encouragement, and emphasized the importance of staying strong throughout the treatment process. As a gesture of support, they reinforced the message of perseverance among the children by reminding them that they are heroes bravely battling cancer.
To bring joy to the young patients, they distributed toys, creating moments of happiness amid their challenging journeys. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to community service and humanitarian efforts in the medical field.
