On January 2, 2025, the Career Development Center (CDC) at Cihan University-Sulaimaniya launched a remarkable book donation campaign aimed at supporting local prisoners who are eager to expand their knowledge. The initiative, which focused on providing books to help prisoners learn new languages and computer skills, was organized under the supervision of Mr. Aziz Rauf, Assistant Lecturer at the Translation Department, and Ms. Saya Jamal, Head of the Business Department.

The campaign was further supported by the CDC supervisor, Ms. Tafan Kamal Kareem, ensuring its success. Students from various departments, including Translation, General Education, Business, Law, and Medical Laboratory Analysis, actively participated, contributing to this meaningful cause.

This campaign not only provided essential resources to individuals in need but also demonstrated the university’s commitment to social responsibility and lifelong learning. By turning pages and sharing knowledge, the students of Cihan University-Sulaimaniya are helping to make a positive impact in the lives of others!

On 17th February 2025, Career Development Center – CDC at Cihan University of Sulaymaniyah, in collaboration with Neighbors to Nations (N2N), hosted an engaging workshop titled “How to Find Your Passion” at the university’s Seminars Hall. The event featured Gabriel Philips from N2N, who introduced the Circle of Hedgehog concept for discovering passion efficiently, and Dr. Diyar Jamal from the General Education Department, who shared the 3 Es framework for success in education.

Moderated by Ms. Tafan Kamal Kareem, Director of the Career Development Center (CDC), the workshop saw participation from academic and administrative staff as well as students. At the conclusion of the event, appreciation awards were presented to the speakers by Assistant Professor Dr. Sadat Abdullah Aziz, Vice President of Cihan University. The workshop inspired attendees to actively pursue their passions and personal success.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Cihan University- Sulamianya hosted a stimulating international workshop titled Exploring Family Business Dynamics in Literature. The event featured two distinguished speakers: Ms. Pallavi Mahajan, an MBA holder from Oxford University, and Ms. Tafan Kamal Kareem, from General Education department.

Ms. Mahajan offered valuable insights into the intersection of business principles, emphasizing the role of gender balance studies in understanding business strategies and human behavior in corporate environments. Ms. Kareem, a literature and creative writing expert, focused on how literature can shape and influence business ethics, leadership, women empowerment and decision-making processes.

The workshop was moderated by Ms. Basta Nizar, allowing for rich exchanges of ideas between the speakers and the audience.

The event attracted the attention of academic staff, students, and local business owners, promoting dynamic discussions and networking opportunities. The workshop was a significant success, blending academic perspectives with practical business applications and showcasing the unique contributions of literature to the world of business.

Dr. Basho M. Nouri, a lecturer and educational consultant at the University of the cihan – Sulaymaniyah, participated in the conference “K-12 and Beyond: Enhancing Education and Learning,” hosted by the American University of Kurdistan (AUK). During the conference, which attracted the attention of a large number of educators in the Kurdistan region, Dr. Basho M. Nouri conducted an interactive workshop.

The workshop focused directly on the main theme of the conference, which is improving teaching and learning, by providing a solid multidisciplinary framework for teachers from first through twelfth grade. The aim of the workshop was to equip teachers and administrators with practical strategies based on academic evidence to move beyond traditional models of student behavior and to build an inclusive and humane environment. Dr. Bashaw M. Nouri emphasized the important relationship between the classroom, psychological well-being, and academic success, highlighting reform practices as key tools for instructional methods.

During the session, participants discussed how small changes in daily interactions—such as shifting from control to relationship building and from punishment to problem solving—can turn passive learners into active participants. Dr. Bashaw M. Nouri guided the audience through hands-on activities, including managing a ‘visit circle’ to ensure every student is heard, as well as using ‘corrective questions’ for shared responsibility. The workshop focused on small, manageable steps that teachers can immediately implement in their classrooms.

The session was praised for its practical and culturally appropriate approach, leading to a lively discussion among the audience on adapting these strategies for both the public and private school sectors in the Kurdistan Region. Dr. Basho M. Nouri’s participation in this important conference underscores the commitment of the region’s education sector to adopting innovative, student-centered methods that promote human dignity, mutual care, and a lifelong love of learning.

In the presence of Mrs. Sarwa Rasoul, Director General of the Crisis and Disaster Response Center in the Kurdistan Region, Bosa Menner, representative of the German Ministry of the Interior, Peter Pins, head of German volunteers and member of the INSARAG team, a THW representative in Germany, and a THW representative in the Kurdistan Region.

The cihan University in Sulaymaniyah was one of the participating academic institutions, with M.A. Nawroz Muhammad Abdul Rahman and laboratory assistant Abdullah Sabah Muhammad attending, completing the course successfully, and being awarded international certificates.

At the same time, the Community Response Week (CRT) campaign was launched in the governorates of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, Halabja, and the Rapehrin Autonomous Administration, with the participation of about 150 people in the course aimed at training trainers in universities and academic centers, which was organized as part of a joint plan between the Joint Crisis Coordination Center and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The course is internationally accredited and certified by the Ministry of Interior / Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC). It is a German international certificate that has been approved by INSARAG.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Interior and the Joint Crisis Coordination Center work with the German Federal Agency (THW) to raise community awareness of crisis and disaster response using the simplest available household supplies, as well as to enable people to help themselves and their families before government teams arrive on site.

In the first session of the workshop, Mr. Adib Latif, the Director General of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in Sulaymaniyah, presented a topic titled ‘The Legal Regulation of the Rights and Privileges of Martyrs’ Families in the Kurdistan Region.’ He detailed the legal provisions that ensure the life and livelihood of martyrs’ families and explained how to implement Law No. 9 of 2007. This is the first step in the process of working with students studying at the University of Mississippi and the University of Mississippi.

The second workshop was dedicated to Professor M.Y. Dzhwar Anwar, a lecturer at Cihan University-Sulaymaniyah, who presented a topic entitled ‘The Status and Definition of a Martyr According to the Laws of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.’ In this session, the differences and overlaps in the definition of a martyr between the laws of the regional government and the federal government were discussed, and the legal aspects of this definition were analyzed. The session was chaired by Professor M.Y. Rizgar Abdul Muhammad Amin.

This is a free product under the Scientific Zakat Department at Cihan University Sulaimani, available on both platforms: (Google Store) and (Apple Store). It contains texts of dozens of laws, court decisions, and other legal services. This application represents a significant service for students, lawyers, and legal defenders, and it is linked to an artificial intelligence service. The application was prepared under the supervision of the President of Cihan University Sulaimani, Professor Dr. Umed Rafiq Fatiq, with academic supervision by Professor Dr. Nuri Hama Saeed, Director of the Scientific Zakat Department. Some law department students recorded their data under the supervision of student Yara Sarwar, and Mr. M. Jutiar and Mr. M. Ardalan from the Computer Department, demonstrating their skills in designing, developing, and continuously updating the application.

As part of the ongoing activities for Law Week, on Tuesday (25-11-2025), the Law Department at the University of cihan – Sulaymaniyah, in collaboration with the Scientific Zakat Foundation, organized a legal seminar titled “Traffic Safety in the Kurdistan Region: Presentation and Evaluation,” attended by Mr. Sadiq Abdullah, Assistant to the University President and Head of the Law Department, along with the department’s faculty and students.

The meeting focused on the legal challenges, gaps, and difficulties facing the implementation of the traffic law in the Kurdistan Region.

The seminar topics were divided as follows:
In the first topic, Judge Dr. Awat Omar Haji, Head of the Court of Appeal in Kirkuk / Kirkuk Region, presented a topic titled “Some Observations on Traffic Safety No. (86) of 2004 as Amended,” where he outlined the legal details.

Judge Hawa Rafiq Fattah, a judge at the Sulaymaniyah Court of Appeals, participated as the second speaker and evaluated the law and procedures from a judicial perspective regarding the creation of an offense in the act of driving.

On the other hand, Colonel Bakhtiar Muhammad Abdullah, Director of Traffic Communications in Sulaymaniyah, presented a sensitive topic titled “The Impact and Risks of Alcohol and Drugs on Drivers,” where he discussed the major risks facing public safety.

The session concluded with a discussion from the audience and questions answered by the committee members.

The course was organized for a number of learners in the city of Chuar Chray No, with a total of 75 trainees. The course lasted for two months with the participation of several volunteer teachers, after which awards and participation certificates were distributed to them.

In this program, Nouri Hamah Said, director of the Zakat Al-Eilm Foundation, spoke about the foundation’s goals and its various methods of work. He also invited interested citizens, such as writers, religious teachers, artists, and anyone wishing to contribute charitable work to the community, to have the ability to serve state institutions and civil society organizations and participate in studies through this foundation.
