The Medical Laboratory Department at Cihan University – Duhok organized a workshop on “Laboratory Diagnosis of Human Fungal Infections” on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

The workshop was organized under the supervision of Dr. Kajeen Hassan, Dean of Medical Departments at Cihan University – Duhok, and Dr. Asia Abdulhamid, Professor at the College of Science, University of Duhok. It focused on laboratory techniques for diagnosing fungal infections in humans, highlighting modern diagnostic methods and their applications.

workshop titled “Understanding IELTS” was held for students of the General Education Department.

The workshop, held on February 23, 2025, was titled “Understanding IELTS” and was given by Mr. Mohammad Faisal and Dr Bala Chandran. Its objective was to familiarize students with the four main modules of the IELTS exam (speaking, writing, listening, reading)

The Directorate of Health and Safety at Cihan University – Duhok conducted a panel in coordination with the Directorate of Civil Defense in Duhok, the Rapid Rescue Center in Duhok, and the Directorate of Duhok Police. The discussion aimed to raise public awareness among university students and staff regarding health and safety.

On November 09, 2024, a scientific workshop entitled “Microbial Pollution: Impacts on Public Health and Strategies for Controlling” was conducted by Medical Microbiology and Medical Laboratory departments at Cihan University-Duhok. presented by Dr. Mervan Y. Huseyin, Ms. Hileen M. Haji, and Mr. Shirwan H. Darweesh. It was aimed to Identify and analyze primary sources of microbial pollution in various environments (e.g., water, soil, air) and understand their contributions to public health risks.

On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the College of Law at Cihan University – Duhok held a workshop on “Sound Marriage: The Foundation of a Sound and Healthy Society,” presented by Professor Dr. Ismail Ababakr Bamarni. The workshop addressed several topics related to making sound marriage decisions, aiming to raise awareness and promote a healthy understanding of marriage among students. This is particularly important as many university students are at a sensitive age and approaching marriage. It is well-established that marriage, when based on sound decisions and a solid foundation, forms a strong pillar of a sound and healthy society. Conversely, any flaw in the marital system will negatively impact society, given that the family is the fundamental building block of any community.

At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was held, allowing attendees the opportunity to ask questions.

On Nov 30, 2025, and in the presence of the University President (Prof. Dr. Zeravan Abdulmuhsen Assad) the Computer Science Department conducted a scientific panel entitled “International Cybersecurity Day – #FICP25.”

The panel was organized under the supervision of the department’s instructors, and it covered several important topics related to cybersecurity, including the protection of (mobile devices, laptops, websites, CCTV systems and defenses against online attacks).

he Role of Radiological Imaging in Supporting Accurate Medical Diagnosis

Under the recommendation of the President of Cihan University-Duhok (Professor Dr. Zerevan Abdulmohsen Asad) Department of Radiological Imaging Technology held a panel entitled (The Role of Radiological Imaging in Supporting Accurate Medical Diagnosis) on Tuesday (25-11-2025), in the presence of the Vice President (Professor Dr. Bayar Mohammed Rashid) under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Radiological Imaging Technology (Mr. Milat Hussein Mustafa) this panel has featured four distinguished panelists.

The panel discussed several important topics about the importance of radiation technology in the medical field, one of the most important topics is the role of radiation technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Also integrating artificial intelligence with radiation imaging technology.

Under the patronage and chairmanship of the President of Cihan University – Duhok, Professor Dr. Zirvan Abdul-Muhsin Asaad, and under the supervision of the Vice President of the University, Professor Dr. Bayar Mohammed Rashid, the first virtual scientific conference of Cihan University – Duhok, entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Contemporary Scientific Transformations,” was held.

The conference was a great success on Saturday, November 22, 2025, with the participation of a distinguished group of professors and researchers from Iraqi, Arab, and international universities.

The conference featured the presentation of rigorous scientific research that highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary scientific and intellectual change, and the prospects for technological development in various disciplines.

Cihan University – Duhok extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all researchers, participants, session chairs, and members of the scientific and organizing committees for their efforts in making this distinguished academic event a success.

On November 15th, 2025, and in recognition of World Diabetes Day, the College of Nursing organized a panel discussion titled “Diabetes Awareness: Prevention and Early Screening.” The session was presented by Dr. Adris H. Ahmed, and Dr. Layla M. Salih, who focused on enhancing the audience’s understanding of diabetes as a major global health challenge and emphasized the critical importance of early detection and preventive strategies.

Throughout the discussion, the physicians highlighted the significance of lifestyle modifications—including maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and achieving a healthy body weight—as key measures in preventing Type 2 diabetes. The session also underscored the value of community-based education programs and routine screening, particularly for individuals at high risk due to factors such as family history, obesity, or sedentary behavior.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which attendees’ inquiries were addressed by a physician specialized in diabetes care.

As part of the academic activities of the College of Law at Cihan University – Duhok, the college organized a seminar entitled:

“Kurdistan in the Iraqi Federal Parliament: The Experience of Parliament Members and the Obstacles to Implementing the Provisions of the Federal Constitution”

This took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, coinciding with preparations for the legislative elections in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Before the seminar began, the Dean of the College of Law at Cihan University – Duhok, Assistant Professor Dr. Reber Hussein, delivered a welcoming address, highlighting the importance of the seminar.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Dzhwar Ahmed, Director of the Consulting and Research Center at the university. It saw broad participation from members of parliament, academics, representatives of civil society organizations, and a number of political figures and researchers, lending the discussion an interactive character that combined academic perspectives with practical experience in parliamentary and constitutional affairs.

The seminar aimed to analyze the constitutional and practical challenges facing the representation of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi Federal Parliament, highlighting the importance of activating the constitutional provisions guaranteeing federalism and consolidating the principle of national partnership in federal decision-making.

At the conclusion of the seminar, and within the framework of scholarly and political questions and interventions, the three main themes were discussed in depth, with various perspectives presented on ways to structurally reform the relationship between the region and the central government. The participants arrived at a set of key outcomes, most notably:

  • Emphasizing the necessity of activating the constitutional articles pertaining to the distribution of powers between the region and the federal government.
  • Calling for the establishment of a joint oversight and legislative mechanism to monitor the federal government’s commitment to implementing the constitutional provisions related to the region.
  • Encouraging Kurdish members of parliament in the upcoming session to adopt a unified national discourse that prioritizes safeguarding the federal balance and placing the national interest above partisan differences.
  • Proposing the expansion of academic and institutional studies on the Iraqi federal experience to enhance its legal and political understanding within both academic and parliamentary circles.
