Third-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department visited Shorsh High School for Girls in Erbil to deliver a seminar titled, Sugar, Energy Drinks, and their Impact on Human Health under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omer. They were warmly received by Mrs. Samia Abdullah Walee, the school director.

The session, held in the school’s main hall, was attended by 11th-grade students who actively participated in discussions about the health effects of excessive sugar and energy drink consumption. The Biomedical Sciences students emphasized the growing prevalence of these products among young people and highlighted their potential adverse effects, particularly the impact on the liver when consumed in excessive amounts.

At the end of the seminar, Mrs. Samia Abdullah Walee expressed her gratitude to the students for their informative presentation and commended their efforts in raising awareness. In return, the Biomedical Sciences students, on behalf of their department, thanked the school director for the opportunity to conduct the seminar.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, third-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an awareness seminar at Koshish Private School in Erbil. The seminar, titled Growing Up: Puberty and Hormonal Changes in Females, was organized by Biomedical Sciences students under the supervision of A.L. Zahrakhan Maaruf Tahir.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Mrs. Rozhan Luqman Ahmad, the school director. The seminar was attended by students from stages 7 and 8, who gathered in the school’s conference hall. During the seminar, the students discussed the hormonal changes that occur during puberty and highlighted the physiological changes in the female body. They also addressed the signs and symptoms of these changes, providing insights into managing hormonal imbalances and the factors that influence hormone levels.

At the end of the seminar, the Biomedical Sciences Department and the students expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Rozhan Luqman Ahmad for the opportunity to conduct the seminar and raise awareness. Mrs. Rozhan Luqman Ahmad, in turn, thanked the students and expressed her appreciation for the Biomedical Sciences students’ efforts.

On Monday, February 17, 2025, students from the Biomedical Sciences Department conducted an awareness seminar at Hawler Educational Academy in Erbil. The seminar, titled Seasonal Allergies, was organized by the Biomedical Sciences Department to educate school students about the causes, prevention, and management of seasonal allergies.

The students were warmly received by Mr. Shakhawan Omar Rasul, the school director, and Mrs. Rezhin Marwf, the assistant director. The seminar was held in the school meeting hall in the presence of esteemed teachers and students.

During the seminar, the students provided valuable insights into the different types of seasonal allergies, emphasizing preventive measures, particularly during winter and the approaching spring season, when allergy cases tend to rise. Additionally, they discussed effective protection strategies and recommended preventive measures such as wearing masks and maintaining proper hygiene to reduce the risk of allergies and seasonal infections, including the flu.

At the end of the seminar, they distributed masks and sanitizing wipes among the attendees. They also engaged the school students in practical demonstrations, including basic health tests such as blood pressure measurement and blood grouping.

Overall, the school students gained essential knowledge on allergy prevention and were able to distinguish between allergic reactions and infections. This initiative enhanced their awareness of personal health and hygiene.

Mr. Shakhawan expressed his gratitude to the Biomedical Sciences Department students for their efforts. They later extended their appreciation to him on behalf of their department.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a health awareness activity at Sami Abdulrahman Park under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omer.

As part of the department’s ongoing community service program, the students provided free health screenings for park visitors. They interacted with numerous individuals and offered a range of medical services, including blood pressure measurement, blood glucose testing, blood grouping, and body mass index (BMI) assessment. Additionally, they analyzed the test results and provided medical advice and recommendations based on their findings.

To further promote awareness, the students distributed brochures introducing the Biomedical Sciences Department and highlighting its role in the community. The department remains committed to engaging in initiatives that serve the public and enhance health awareness.

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, as part of its commitment to academic outreach, students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil presented an insightful seminar titled “Personal Development” at Sardam Private High School.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Mr. Ali Jabbar Sabr, the Director of Sardam Private High School.

During the session, the university students provided an overview of personal development. They shared academic experiences and professional insights, encouraging 11th-grade students to adopt proactive approaches toward personal and academic growth. The seminar aimed to give high school students a comprehensive understanding of personal growth, skill development, and self-improvement.

The seminar concluded with an open Q&A session, where students engaged with university representatives and gained valuable insights into personal development.

Thursday, 14th November 2024 In recognition of World Diabetes Day, second-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University – Erbil hosted an engaging seminar titled “Effect of Stress on Diabetes” for 10th and 11th-grade students at Sava Private High School.

Under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hero Ismael Mohammed, the biomedical students received a warm welcome from the school principal, Mr. Hoshmand Sahand Mustafa. The seminar, held in the school’s conference hall, was attended by both students and teachers, who actively participated in the insightful discussion.

During the presentation, the university students emphasized the significance of World Diabetes Day and explored the causes of diabetes, with a particular focus on the relationship between stress and elevated blood sugar levels. They explained how chronic stress can exacerbate diabetes, leading to long-term health complications.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude and mutual appreciation. The biomedical sciences students thanked the school administration for their warm reception and support. In turn, Principal Hoshmand Sahand Mustafa praised the students for their professionalism and expertise, expressing pride in their accomplishments and skills. On Thursday, February 13, 2025, second-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Cihan University – Erbil organized a successful community outreach event in honor of Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place every February. The event aimed to increase public knowledge about cancer, with a strong focus on prevention and the importance of early detection.

Held in the downtown area of Erbil, near Parky Shar and the Erbil Citadel, the outreach saw the students actively engaging with the public. They distributed informative brochures that outlined the various types of cancer, provided details on effective prevention strategies, and stressed the significance of early screening.

Their core message centered around the belief that prevention is better than cure, urging individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles and regularly undergo screenings to ensure early diagnosis. Through their efforts, they hoped to make a positive impact on the community by promoting proactive health measures and raising awareness about cancer prevention.

As part of an ongoing awareness program, second-year Biomedical Sciences students organized an educational seminar on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) at Erbil- Zhyar Private School on Monday, February 3, 2025. The event was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Zarakhan Maaruf Tahir.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Azad Hamad Abdullah, the school director. The seminar, held in the school hall, was attended by 11th and 12th-grade students. The Biomedical Sciences students provided a comprehensive presentation on PCOS, covering its causes, clinical symptoms, prevention strategies, and treatment options. PCOS is a common hormonal disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, elevated androgen levels, and the presence of multiple small ovarian cysts. It is a leading cause of infertility and metabolic complications if left untreated.

At the end of the seminar, the Biomedical Sciences students, on behalf of the Head of the Department, presented Mr. Azad Hamad Abdullah with a certificate of appreciation for his hospitality and support in facilitating the awareness session.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, third-stage students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences conducted an educational seminar titled “Eczema: Disease and Prevention” at Private Sardam High School in Erbil. The event, organized under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omer, aimed to enhance public health awareness among high school students.

The students were warmly welcomed by the school director, Mr. Ali Jabbar Sabr, who expressed his appreciation for their initiative in promoting health education. The seminar was held in the school hall, with tenth-grade students participating and engaging attentively with the presenters.

During the session, the students provided a detailed explanation of eczema, covering key aspects such as its definition, causes, and risk factors. They elaborated on the signs and symptoms associated with the condition and highlighted the latest approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Emphasizing the importance of early detection and proper management, the presenters also discussed lifestyle modifications and best practices to reduce the risk of developing eczema. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to clarify their doubts and gain deeper insights into the topic.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, second-year students from the Biomedical Sciences Department visited Shaysta High School for Girls in Erbil to deliver a seminar titled “HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention” for 10th and 11th-grade students.

The students were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Farah Fawzi Ahmed, the principal of Shaysta High School. As part of the department’s scientific activities, the students presented their seminar to the 10th and 11th graders at the school. During the seminar, they provided detailed information about HIV/AIDS, including its causes, transmission, prevention, and treatment. The objective of this activity was to raise awareness and empower high school students to prevent infection.

In appreciation of her support and hospitality, the students presented Ms. Ahmed with an official letter of gratitude on behalf of their department. They also gifted the school a poster about AIDS that they had prepared. The principal expressed her gratitude and commended the students for their efforts in raising awareness and providing valuable information.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences emphasizes such voluntary activities to promote health awareness and foster relationships between educational institutions.
