On Saturday, April 19, the Department of Translation at Cihan University–Sulaimani held a local workshop titled (From the Plate to the Page: The Art of Translating Hazhar Mukryani’s Masterpiece Cheshti Majeur). The event featured the presence of Ms. Shene Mohammed, the translator of Cheshti Majeur, originally written by Hazhar Mukriani.
The workshop commenced with an introductory presentation on the significance of literary translation, delivered by Professor Tafan Kamal from the Department of General Education. The session highlighted various types of translation and underscored the role of literary translation in preserving and disseminating cultural narratives.
Ms. Shene Mohammed, the event’s major speaker, discussed her experience translating Cheshti Majeur, emphasizing that the translated text represents a selected portion of Mukriani’s larger body of work.
Following this, Mr. Lavyar Mohammed, a senior student in the Department of Translation, provided a brief critical evaluation of the translated work. His presentation focused on the translation process, strategies employed, and illustrative examples drawn from the text.
The workshop was attended by a large audience of faculty members and students. The event concluded with a formal expression of gratitude delivered by the Head of the Department of Translation, Dr. Moemin Yaseen.
On May 3, 2025, students from the Business and Accounting departments came together to host a unique charity event celebrating both language and culture. Organized as part of their Academic English and Kurdology courses, the event featured food sales to practice English in a “supermarket” setting, alongside vibrant posters introducing Kurdish culture and geography.
Supervised by instructors Tafan Kamal Karim and Payman Osman Rasul, the event successfully combined education with community engagement, offering students a creative and meaningful learning experience.
On April 30, 2025, a national workshop titled “Being an Exemplary Teacher and Addressing Special Education Needs” was held at the university. General Education students actively participated by presenting multiple seminars on ADHD, autism, and strategies for inclusive classrooms.
Dr. Adil Abdulrahman delivered a session on effective approaches for supporting students with special needs, while Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim discussed the protection and rights of children with disabilities. The event aimed to enhance awareness and prepare future educators for inclusive and responsible teaching.
On May 22, 2025, General Education students marked International Earth Day with an event themed “Keep It Green, Save Water.” Supervised by Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, the event featured displays of items made from recyclable materials and promoted environmental awareness.
Dr. Sadat Abdullah Aziz, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, attended the event along with directors from Quality Assurance, University Administration, and Media and Public Relations, showing strong support for student-led sustainability efforts.
May 26, 2025 – CDC, in partnership with N2N and General Education Department, organized a workshop at Cihan International School titled “How to Understand the Teenage Brain?”
The session was delivered by Mr. Nathan and Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, offering valuable insights to school teachers on adolescent brain development. Ms. Basta Nizar moderated the event, which aimed to support educators in better understanding and guiding teenagers.
The Department of Accounting at Cihan University – Sulaimaniyah, in collaboration with the Career Development Center (CDC) and N2N, successfully organized a specialized training course titled ” Financial Accounting” over three days from May 25 to 27, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The training was delivered by )Daren Mc Donald( from N2N organization, with the support of Assistant lecturer (Tafan Kamal Karim) from the Career Development Center (CDC). The course was part of a joint initiative aimed at enhancing participants’ academic and professional competencies through expert-led instruction and interactive engagement. A group of faculty members, and professionals attended the sessions, benefiting from the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop critical thinking skills, and engage in meaningful discussions. The event reflected the shared commitment of the Department of Accounting, CDC, and N2N to support career development and promote academic excellence. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants and contributors for their active involvement and interest.
On May 14, Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, Director of the Career Development Center at Cihan University–Sulaimaniya, led the first expert panel of the AI Symposium in Higher Education and Healthcare.
Representing the General Education Department, Ms. Tafan chaired a thought-provoking session titled “Can AI Truly Replace Educators and Teachers in the Near Future?” The panel drew a large audience and sparked engaging discussions.
The symposium, jointly organized by seven universities, recognized Ms. Tafan’s valuable contribution with a certificate of appreciation for her role and leadership in the event.
On May 31, 2025, Cihan University-Sulaimaniya’s Department of Law and N2N Organization, in collaboration with the Career Development Center (CDC), organized an international workshop titled Women’s Self-Defense. The event was coordinated by Asst. Lect. Tafan Kamal Karim (CDC Director) and featured presentations by JP (N2N) and Dr. Tara Taha Othman (Department of Law).
The workshop focused on empowering women through practical self-defense techniques, including situational awareness, physical defense strategies, and legal rights protection. Experts emphasized the importance of confidence-building and preparedness in facing potential threats, aligning with global efforts to promote gender safety and equality. Attendees participated in hands-on training sessions, gaining essential skills to enhance personal security.
On May 31, 2025, Cihan University-Sulaimaniya’s Department of Law, in collaboration with N2N Organization, organized an awareness workshop titled Human Trafficking Awareness. The event was coordinated by Asst. Lect. Tafan Kamal Karim (CDC Director) and featured presentations by Katy Hartly (N2N) and Asst. Prof. Awat Omer Haji (Department of Law).
The workshop aimed to educate participants on the dangers of human trafficking, legal protections, and prevention strategies. Experts discussed global trafficking trends, victim support mechanisms, and the role of communities in combating this crime. Interactive sessions helped attendees recognize signs of trafficking and understand reporting procedures, reinforcing the university’s commitment to social justice and human rights.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the General Education Department and the Admissions and Registration Directorate at Cihan University-Sulaimaniya, in partnership with Step UK Organization, held a seminar on applying for the Chevening Scholarship. The event took place at the Step Organization hall and was also streamed online.
The seminar opened with Mrs. Lehat Yousif, Director of Admissions and Registration, who introduced Cihan University-Sulaimaniya and its academic departments. This was followed by Mrs. Tafan Kamal Karim, a Chevening alumna, who shared her experience and provided guidance on the application process.
The event drew significant interest both in-person and online, offering valuable insights for prospective applicants and strengthening ties between the university and the broader community.
