On May 14, Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, Director of the Career Development Center at Cihan University–Sulaimaniya, led the first expert panel of the AI Symposium in Higher Education and Healthcare.
Representing the General Education Department, Ms. Tafan chaired a thought-provoking session titled “Can AI Truly Replace Educators and Teachers in the Near Future?” The panel drew a large audience and sparked engaging discussions.
The symposium, jointly organized by seven universities, recognized Ms. Tafan’s valuable contribution with a certificate of appreciation for her role and leadership in the event.
On May 31, 2025, Cihan University-Sulaimaniya’s Department of Law and N2N Organization, in collaboration with the Career Development Center (CDC), organized an international workshop titled Women’s Self-Defense. The event was coordinated by Asst. Lect. Tafan Kamal Karim (CDC Director) and featured presentations by JP (N2N) and Dr. Tara Taha Othman (Department of Law).
The workshop focused on empowering women through practical self-defense techniques, including situational awareness, physical defense strategies, and legal rights protection. Experts emphasized the importance of confidence-building and preparedness in facing potential threats, aligning with global efforts to promote gender safety and equality. Attendees participated in hands-on training sessions, gaining essential skills to enhance personal security.
On May 31, 2025, Cihan University-Sulaimaniya’s Department of Law, in collaboration with N2N Organization, organized an awareness workshop titled Human Trafficking Awareness. The event was coordinated by Asst. Lect. Tafan Kamal Karim (CDC Director) and featured presentations by Katy Hartly (N2N) and Asst. Prof. Awat Omer Haji (Department of Law).
The workshop aimed to educate participants on the dangers of human trafficking, legal protections, and prevention strategies. Experts discussed global trafficking trends, victim support mechanisms, and the role of communities in combating this crime. Interactive sessions helped attendees recognize signs of trafficking and understand reporting procedures, reinforcing the university’s commitment to social justice and human rights.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the General Education Department and the Admissions and Registration Directorate at Cihan University-Sulaimaniya, in partnership with Step UK Organization, held a seminar on applying for the Chevening Scholarship. The event took place at the Step Organization hall and was also streamed online.
The seminar opened with Mrs. Lehat Yousif, Director of Admissions and Registration, who introduced Cihan University-Sulaimaniya and its academic departments. This was followed by Mrs. Tafan Kamal Karim, a Chevening alumna, who shared her experience and provided guidance on the application process.
The event drew significant interest both in-person and online, offering valuable insights for prospective applicants and strengthening ties between the university and the broader community.
A workshop titled “A Green Future: A Workshop on Sustainable Practices” was organised at Cihan University-Erbil as part of the efforts and programs of the Presidency of Cihan University – Erbil to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The University’s conference hall hosted a session on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 attended by the University President, vice presidents, heads of the scientific departments, faculty members, and a remarkable number of students. The organization of the event was made in association with “Maple Tree Organization for Environmental Awareness and Community Development”.
During the workshop’s opening, Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, the president of Cihan University – Erbil, delivered a speech in which he expressed his delight of a college within his university collaborating with a global organisation to ensure a bright future for future generations. Prof Al-Delawi added that “it is evident that all world leaders are committed to achieving the 17 UN goals by 2030.”
He stated: “As a scientific institution in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region، we have a prominent role in educating students for the future، so our duties are not only to educate but also to implement these 17 goals، and for this purpose we have formed a separate committee and board that includes representatives of foreign countries so that Cihan University- Erbil can take its place among the 17 goals that exist and are called chairs.” Ask any university nowadays, and they would tell you they have a tonne of seats. For this reason, our committee has done a great job of setting five initial goals and is actively working towards achieving them in order to secure our place in the UN.
Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi adduced how this process is not the activity of the university alone but it is the activity of university and respectable organization, active students and the society because all these institutions are striving jointly to elevate the society to the level of the seeker of these 17 goals, and he added that this workshop is one of the most important workshops through which the foundation for the initiating of changes at the level of the people within the region can be accomplished, for example, the Kurdistan Region is not any less than the other countries and societies of Dhaka, our institutions are not any far less than the institutions of the countries, and environment is ready for it. Therefore, the infrastructure which is being created with this vision can facilitate the achievement of these 17 goals.
“At Cihan University – Erbil, said Prof. Dr. Al-Delawi said,” Cihan University-Erbil has many contributions to help the poor and those in need of assistance and help, a number of important projects have been implemented, especially in the restoration of the school and the implementation of volunteer and charitable activities during the month of Ramadan, all of which were due to the efforts of teachers and students.” In a segment of his speech devoted to the work and projects that have been carried out in the past, Prof Al-Delawi also stated “these are some of the goals that the program for the coming year will be aiming to achieve. Together with the help of students, instructors, and their families, we can participate in an international project and create an example for others to follow.”
The topics of discussion were “Introduction to Green Washing and Green Marketing” by Assistant Lecturer Azwar Mahdi, Head of the Media Department, and “Building a Sustainable Future: Aligning Our Mission with Personal Action” by Director of Maple Tree Foundation for Community Development and Environmental Awareness Hakar Barzani. Dr. Zainab Sheikhli then spoke about sustainability and primary education. While Assistant Lecturer Musallam Najib Zidan provided a thorough and scientific explanation of the principles of environmental management, including stakeholders’ impacts and sustainable solutions, Mr.Jalal Parvin , a member of the Maple Tree Organization concentrated on renewable energy and its effects on the environment and economy. The audience then engaged in a thorough discussion of the topics covered.
At the conclusion of the session, Cihan University-Erbil students who had previously volunteered to work with the Maple Tree Organization and organized various events were given certificates of gratitude.
On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the Department of Business Administration conducted a training course in the field of accounting at the Academy Hall of Cihan University-Erbil, in collaboration with the Board of Supreme Audit of the Kurdistan Region-Iraq.
The course was organized with the aim of enhancing the scientific and practical knowledge of students from the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences.
The course was successfully held under the supervision of Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Delo, President of Cihan University-Erbil, and Mr. Fariq Sulaiman Harni, Director General of the Board of Supreme Audit of the Kurdistan Region-Iraq.
At the beginning of the course, Assistant Professor Dr. Hawkar Qasim Pirdawd, Head of the Department of Business Administration, and Mr. Mohsen Mohammed Saleh, Director of Courses and Training at the Board of Supreme Audit of the Kurdistan Region-Iraq, delivered several valuable speeches.
On the first day of the course, Dr. Abdul Salam Omar Ahmed from the Board of Supreme Audit presented several important topics, including an introduction to accounting and the roles, duties, and responsibilities of accountants within companies. He also emphasized the importance of properly archiving accounting records to prevent issues during audits. Additionally, he explained the significance of calculating depreciation accurately to help companies avoid financial losses.
Dr. Abdul Salam then pointed out that several accounting systems, such as QuickBooks and Al-Aseel Al-Zahabi, are currently used in companies. However, he noted that the field of auditing still relies on traditional methods.
At the end of the first day, students from all three departments within the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences Business Administration, Public Administration, and Accounting actively participated through discussions and questions.
Prof. Dr. Amjad Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, organized a training course for academic staff to educate and familiarize them with the application of artificial intelligence in their fields of management, administration, and law.
The course, which started on Thursday, March 6, 2025, was held at the university’s Academy Hall. Academic staff from the Departments of Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Media, Law, and International Relations and Diplomacy attended this course. During the course, Dr. Khalid Fadhil Jasim, the speaker and Head of the Computer Science Department, discussed various AI programs employed in labor management, transportation, and customer service, along with other applications in administration and management across different industries.
At the end of the session, several questions were asked by the participants, along with their feedback given, primarily focusing on the future of artificial intelligence in managing and planning institutions in different fields.
This five-day course will resume in the coming days, covering various topics related to artificial intelligence, including its roles in marketing, data analysis, accounting, big data analysis, and its applications in the legal field. Participants will also take part in the discussion session.
On Saturday, 16-11-2024, in the university seminar hall, the ASA Department organized a scientific seminar titled: The 2024 General Population Census for the Kurdistan Region: An Important and Risky Process!
In the session, two topics were presented and moderated by Dr. Asso Hamaseen. The first topic was presented by Mr. P.I.D. Ismail Najm Al-Din Zangan, titled “Constitutional Organization and Normalization of the General Population Census Process in Iraq.” In his presentation, he focused on all constitutional and legal provisions related to the process, including Article 110 of Article 9 of the Iraqi Constitution and both federal regulations (the General Census for Residents and Settlements No. 40 of 2008 and Geographic Information System Statistics No. 32 of 2023). In light of these texts, he explained the importance of the census and highlighted the risks that may arise from this process, especially concerning uninhabited areas.
The second topic by P.Y.D., prepared by Ibrahim Ahmed, titled (Numbers of the General Sessions of the Iraqi Parliament 2024 in International Decisions and Recommendations). In line with the topic, all international decisions that had been made and were important for resolving the issues of liberated areas were reviewed before any other inquiries from the regions, according to the numbers of the general sessions of the Parliament, and particularly for resolving internal border issues in Iraq as part of the work of this international organization.
At the end of the session, their questions and clarifications were prepared to be submitted to the committee members, who in turn provided their answers and additional clarifications.
On the International Mother Language Day, the Department of Law at Cihan University_Sulaimaniya held a scientific symposium with the participation of the Presidency of the Sulaimaniya Court of Appeal and the Presidency of the Kirkuk-Garmian Court of Appeal.
The conference was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ismail Najmuddin, Head of the Department of Law, where the lecturers presented their topics for 10 minutes, and then the participants discussed the issues extensively. At the end of the workshop, the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Omid Rafiq Fattah, presented a certificate of participation to the participants.
On the night of 27/11/2025, as part of the Al-Arba’a Adwaa Al-Jadida housing project and within the framework of volunteer work, the Zakat Al-Elim Foundation at the cihan University in Sulaymaniyah, in collaboration with the administration of Al-Arba’a Adwaa Al-Jadida, held an educational seminar by Mr. B.D. Kareem Qarashtani titled: “The Pillars and Foundations of the Teaching and Learning Process.” The seminar was attended by a large number of residents, and the activity was organized and managed by Mr. B.E.D. Nouri Hamed Saeed.
