February 26, 2025 — The Translation Department held the “My Favorite Play” at 10:30 AM, organized by students and supervised by Ms. Tafan Kamal Kareem. The event, held in the department’s hallway, featured students sharing their favorite plays and offering insightful interpretations, highlighting the intersection of theater and translation. As well as the the event contained showing videos and music of students favourite plays.
The event welcomed by university staffs and academics.

March 10, 2025 – The Law Department at Cihan University-Sulaimaniya (CUS), in collaboration with the Career Development Center (CDC) and the Civil Development Organization (CDO), successfully concluded a training course on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (S/RES/1325) on Women, Peace, and Security.

The training, attended by 30 law students, was taught by Ms. Donya Ali Rafiq and aimed at deepening students’ understanding of the resolution’s focus on women’s roles in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. The course also emphasized gender equality and the importance of women’s participation in peace processes.
Dr. Ismail Najmadin Namiq, Head of the Law Department, highlighted the significance of this training in preparing students to engage with critical international peace and security issues.

The initiative was supported and organized to every single step Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, Director of the Career Development Center.

March 26, 2025 – An international workshop, Attitudinal Love and sin in Christopher Marlowe and George Chapman’s Interpretations of Hero and Leander, was held. Organized by the General Education Department at CUS, and moderated by Mr. Muhammed Imad the workshop featured the following key speakers:

  1. Tafan Kamal Kareem (CUS) discussed Marlowe’s version alongside the original myth.
  2. Rezhen Nawzad Latif (University of Sulaimani) explored the biographies of Marlowe and Chapman.
  3. Merhan Anwar Memon (Quaid e Azam University) analyzed Chapman’s version and provided conclusions and recommendations.

April 13, 2025 — The Career Development Center (CDC), in collaboration with the Business Department, successfully hosted an international workshop titled “Effective CV and Cover Letter Writing Skills” in the university’s Seminars Hall. The event brought together students, recent graduates, and professionals eager to enhance their application writing skills in today’s competitive job market.

The workshop featured three brilliant speakers who shared their insights and practical strategies:

  1. Blessa Mohammed from the university’s Business Department
  2. Pallavi Mahajan from Oxford University
  3. Sipal Kamal Abdulaziz from Amavi, London

The session was expertly moderated by Mr. Tafan Kamal Karim, Director of the Career Development Center, who guided the discussion and ensured an engaging and informative experience for all attendees.

Participants praised the event for its interactive format, real-world advice, and the opportunity to learn directly from international experts. The workshop is part of the both CDC & business department’s ongoing efforts to support student career readiness and global engagement

On Saturday, April 19, the Department of Translation at Cihan University–Sulaimani held a local workshop titled (From the Plate to the Page: The Art of Translating Hazhar Mukryani’s Masterpiece Cheshti Majeur). The event featured the presence of Ms. Shene Mohammed, the translator of Cheshti Majeur, originally written by Hazhar Mukriani.
The workshop commenced with an introductory presentation on the significance of literary translation, delivered by Professor Tafan Kamal from the Department of General Education. The session highlighted various types of translation and underscored the role of literary translation in preserving and disseminating cultural narratives.
Ms. Shene Mohammed, the event’s major speaker, discussed her experience translating Cheshti Majeur, emphasizing that the translated text represents a selected portion of Mukriani’s larger body of work.
Following this, Mr. Lavyar Mohammed, a senior student in the Department of Translation, provided a brief critical evaluation of the translated work. His presentation focused on the translation process, strategies employed, and illustrative examples drawn from the text.
The workshop was attended by a large audience of faculty members and students. The event concluded with a formal expression of gratitude delivered by the Head of the Department of Translation, Dr. Moemin Yaseen.

On May 3, 2025, students from the Business and Accounting departments came together to host a unique charity event celebrating both language and culture. Organized as part of their Academic English and Kurdology courses, the event featured food sales to practice English in a “supermarket” setting, alongside vibrant posters introducing Kurdish culture and geography.
Supervised by instructors Tafan Kamal Karim and Payman Osman Rasul, the event successfully combined education with community engagement, offering students a creative and meaningful learning experience.

On April 30, 2025, a national workshop titled “Being an Exemplary Teacher and Addressing Special Education Needs” was held at the university. General Education students actively participated by presenting multiple seminars on ADHD, autism, and strategies for inclusive classrooms.
Dr. Adil Abdulrahman delivered a session on effective approaches for supporting students with special needs, while Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim discussed the protection and rights of children with disabilities. The event aimed to enhance awareness and prepare future educators for inclusive and responsible teaching.

On May 22, 2025, General Education students marked International Earth Day with an event themed “Keep It Green, Save Water.” Supervised by Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, the event featured displays of items made from recyclable materials and promoted environmental awareness.
Dr. Sadat Abdullah Aziz, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, attended the event along with directors from Quality Assurance, University Administration, and Media and Public Relations, showing strong support for student-led sustainability efforts.

May 26, 2025 – CDC, in partnership with N2N and General Education Department, organized a workshop at Cihan International School titled “How to Understand the Teenage Brain?”

The session was delivered by Mr. Nathan and Ms. Tafan Kamal Karim, offering valuable insights to school teachers on adolescent brain development. Ms. Basta Nizar moderated the event, which aimed to support educators in better understanding and guiding teenagers.

The Department of Accounting at Cihan University – Sulaimaniyah, in collaboration with the Career Development Center (CDC) and N2N, successfully organized a specialized training course titled ” Financial Accounting” over three days from May 25 to 27, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The training was delivered by )Daren Mc Donald( from N2N organization, with the support of Assistant lecturer (Tafan Kamal Karim) from the Career Development Center (CDC). The course was part of a joint initiative aimed at enhancing participants’ academic and professional competencies through expert-led instruction and interactive engagement. A group of faculty members, and professionals attended the sessions, benefiting from the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop critical thinking skills, and engage in meaningful discussions. The event reflected the shared commitment of the Department of Accounting, CDC, and N2N to support career development and promote academic excellence. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants and contributors for their active involvement and interest.
