der the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismael Mawlood, students from the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an intensive awareness activity on electronic media safety on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Ahmad Raikani Girls’ School in the Bahrka district.
They were received by the school principal, Ms. Shilan Mohieddin Ahmed, who expressed her profound gratitude and appreciation to the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil for its continuous initiatives in organizing awareness activities and seminars for school students. She emphasized the critical importance of such initiatives, especially given the increasing interaction of students and youth with communication tools and electronic media in today’s world.
The activity commenced with a lecture delivered by Zina Sharif, a fourth-year student in the Media Department, who discussed the psychological and social impacts of cyberbullying on students. She provided a comprehensive explanation of personal protection methods and strategies against electronic violence, emphasizing the need to be cautious about inappropriate comments, threats, and fake news prevalent on social media networks. She also outlined the procedures for filing complaints with the relevant authorities.
This was followed by a presentation of a detailed legal overview by another fourth-year student, Barzi Azad. He reviewed the provisions of Law No. 8 of 2008 concerning the misuse of communication devices in the Kurdistan Region and explained the types of penalties imposed on violators. This segment specifically targeted tenth-grade students at the school, aiming to raise their awareness of the dangers of electronic media misuse and encourage them to adopt responsible practices when using these platforms.
Finally, the supervising instructor thanked the school administration and staff for their warm reception, expressing hope that the Cihan University-Erbil students had provided the school’s students with valuable and beneficial information.
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Department of Media at Cihan University–Erbil organized a specialized seminar titled The Role of Women in New Media: Participation, Success, and Self-Protection, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Jamal Hama Karim.
This seminar, delivered by journalist Berivan Anwar Khoshnaw at the Cihan Academy Hall for Training and Development, focused on the significance of media work for women. It included her personal career experiences and the decision-making process that led her to become a journalist. The seminar also highlighted the socio-cultural factors that restrict women from working in certain media roles and discussed the opportunities presented by digital platforms, explaining how these platforms have enabled women to express their voices without institutional permission.
Ms Berivan also emphasized the importance of women understanding how to protect themselves from issues, challenges, and risks encountered online, such as threats and inappropriate language, as well as strategies for dealing with harmful messages directed at them by the surrounding community during their media work. The students actively participated in the seminar. Following a discussion and exchange of views, they expressed that the seminar broadened their intellectual horizons and called for the continuation of such activities to further familiarize themselves with the situation of women in new media.
Upon completion of the seminar, the Department of Media presented a certificate of appreciation to Ms. Berivan, expressing gratitude for her presentation to the students. The significance of continuing similar academic activities to further raise students’ awareness was also emphasized.
On January 28, 2025, the Business Administration Department at Cihan University-Erbil hosted a workshop titled Intelligent Scheduling Systems for Complex Manufacturing Systems. This event, presented by Associate Professor Ammar Al-Bazi from the School of Business at Aston University, UK, provided valuable insights into the challenges and ways of scheduling in complex manufacturing environments.
The workshop began with the first session, which shared the real-life challenges faced in manufacturing scheduling and introduced intelligent algorithms to address them. The next session focused on the key features of scheduling algorithms, highlighting how they reduce setup times and efficiently allocate resources. It also underscored real-time data integration to dynamically adjust schedules and include outsourcing.
The workshop was followed by a live software demonstration in which the participants saw how scheduling issues, dynamic adjustments, and resource allocation were resolved. The session also presented Gantt chart visualizations for production schedules.
In the final session, the results from the live demonstration were reviewed, emphasizing improvements in terms of scheduling efficiency. This session also pointed out how the solutions could be scaled to different manufacturing environments.
The workshop concluded with an open Q&A session followed by a discussion session. During these sessions, the participants asked questions while gaining valuable insights into the future of intelligent scheduling in manufacturing.
On Thursday, October 10, 2024, the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University-Erbil, in collaboration with Superior Design Company, hosted a workshop for students in the university’s Academic Hall.
The workshop featured various presentations by Mr. Bashdar Habib Mohammed, a representative of Superior Design Company, who covered several aspects of recycling. He emphasized the significance of reusing materials, which plays a crucial role in reducing environmental waste.
Additionally, the workshop addressed the challenges involved in recycling. Students actively engaged with the topics, contributing to scientific discussions on the different types and methods of recycling.
The workshop provided valuable insights into the importance of recycling and the challenges it faces. Through interactive discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of sustainable practices and the various methods of reusing materials. This initiative not only raised awareness about environmental protection but also encouraged students to explore innovative solutions in the field of recycling.
As part of the workshop held on Thursday, 4/12/2025, at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Sulaymaniyah, Professor Dr. Karim Sharif Qarashitani participated in a special discussion session on the internal causes of violence against women. During the event, participants discussed the reasons for domestic violence, particularly against women, and ways to address these issues. A considerable number of professors from the Department of Islamic Sciences, including Professor Raghri Bash, as well as many students, also attended the session. In the end, Dr. Karim answered the questions posed.
On November 19, 2025, the professors and students of the English Department at Cihan University in Sulaymaniyah participated in a breakfast for 1,000 people in the city square, organized by Dr. Aras Abdul Karim, Head of the English Department, and Ms. Shaimaa Mohammed, a lecturer in the English Department, along with a number of department students.
As part of the event, students from all levels collected a variety of food and essentials and donated them to the homeless.
The event was held under the supervision of Assistant Professor Tawfiq and teacher Saya, with the oversight of the Head of the Business Administration Department. After receiving the donations, the officials of the orphanage expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Business Administration Department and the University of Sulaymaniyah for their continued assistance and visits.
Several important topics were presented at the workshop, including the concept of foster families, which was introduced by the session director Hiro Abu Bakr, in addition to the principles and guidelines for caring for children by foster families, presented by lawyer Himin Mohamed, followed by issues and challenges in childcare presented by our graduates,
lawyer and master’s student Xiao Mahmoud. The workshop became an important forum for discussing the legal and social aspects of childcare by foster families, highlighting the gaps between the text of the law and its implementation. Participants emphasized the importance of protecting children’s rights and providing a safe environment for them to grow and thrive.
On September 20, 2025, the professors and students of the Law Department carried out environmental activities as part of volunteer work. These activities included cleaning certain areas outside the campus and the surrounding streets with the participation of attendees. This event, as an initial initiative, demonstrates Jihan-Sulaymaniyah University’s commitment to environmental issues in the community.
In the workshop, the focus was on the topic of ‘corrective education’ and encouraging teachers to change their teaching approach from a social punishment model to a model of reform through community involvement. Dr. explained, using the analogy of the ‘connected branch,’ that 80% of successful classroom management relies on early initiative and relationship building, not just on dealing with mistakes. Participants learned through behavior guidance how to work ‘with’ students rather than merely supervising them at school. These activities are part of the university’s efforts to renew the teaching and learning process in the region.
