On January 12, 2026, a number of students from Cihan University-Duhok, at the initiative of the Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Reber Hussein, and under the supervision of the university’s Academic Officer, Shiyan Mahdi, participated in an important workshop organized by the Zhinda Organization in cooperation with the Independent Commission for Human Rights – Duhok Office, and in coordination with Cihan University-Duhok.
The workshop opened with welcoming remarks from Ms. M. Chiman, President of the Zhinda Organization, and Mr. Diler Abdullah Hassan, Head of the Independent Commission for Human Rights – Duhok Office, who presented an overview of the workshop’s objectives and main themes.
Following this, Professor Dr. Ismail Ababakr Bamarni, a university professor, delivered the first lecture, entitled: “The Role of Legal Philosophy in Changing Social and Individual Awareness,” in which he addressed the intellectual and philosophical dimensions of law and their impact on reshaping societal mindsets. In the second session, Dr. Zubaida Sayed Saleh presented her lecture entitled:
“The Impact of Social Stigma on Women’s Participation in the Labor Market,” highlighting the social and cultural challenges that hinder women’s economic empowerment.
The workshop concluded with an open academic discussion involving students from Cihan University-Duhok and a number of academics and trainers, focusing on the phenomenon of social stigma and the importance of promoting women’s participation in society. The session also featured intellectual dialogue and an exchange of views, along with in-depth discussions on ways to confront entrenched stereotypes and support the active role of women in society.

It is worth mentioning that this event comes within the activities of the project “Women of Duhok Raise Their Voices for Peace: Towards Fair and Inclusive Participation”, implemented in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and with the support of both the WFWI organization and the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).






The discussion about legal issues, agricultural land problems, popular mobilization issues, oil and budget problems, the non-disbursement of the region’s operating budget, and company problems.

On 24/2/2024, the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Law and the University Administration, organized a scientific seminar during which Mr. Hashmand Osman Rasul, Assistant Director of the Social Security Department in Sulaymaniyah, presented a topic. The aim of the seminar was to provide a comprehensive analysis of the “Summary of Pension Law” and social security. The purpose of this seminar was to present a legal perspective on the laws and regulations related to pension laws and social security systems.
By providing these legal frameworks, the presenter sought to equip law students, as well as the academic and administrative staff, with a deeper understanding of their entitlements to retirement and social security. The seminar was a valuable opportunity for law students to bridge the gap between legal theory and practical application, enabling students to gain a practical perspective on the application of legal principles.
The partnership between the Zakat of Knowledge Foundation, the Law Department, and the University Administration underscores the university’s commitment to providing comprehensive education and empowering the community with leading knowledge in the fields of law and social security. The purpose of these activities is to enrich the academic experience and professional development of students and administrative staff.







On Saturday (23/8/2025) for the closing ceremony of the third professional course for lawyers, organized by the Zakat al-Ilm Foundation in cooperation with the Department of Law, attended by the instructors of the course, including: Judge (Abdulkarim Haidar Ali) (former member of the Region’s Court of Cassation), Judge (Jassim Jaza Jafar) (alternate member of the Federal Supreme Court in Iraq), Judge (Soran Ibrahim) (Judge of the Personal Status Court in Sulaymaniyah), and Judge (Sirwan Rawof Ali) (Judge of the Sharba Jir First Instance Court), as well as the presence of: Assistant Professor Dr. (Saddat Abdullah Aziz), Assistant to the President of the University, Assistant Professor Dr. (Nuri Hama Said), Director of the Zakat al-Ilm Foundation, Dr. (Asso Hameshin Abdulkarim), Head of the Department of Law, and Dr. (Dijwar Anwar), Director of University Management. During the ceremony, a shield of honor was awarded from the University Presidency to the esteemed judges in appreciation of their efforts and hard work, and thereafter, thanks and appreciation were expressed from the University Presidency to the supervisors of the course, who are graduates of the Department of Law, namely: (Yara Sarwar Jalil), (Arya Omar Ahmed), and (NimaSalah Ahmed, Helen Salar Abdul-Lah, and Sarood Jalal Hama Gharib, and at the end of the course, participation certificates were awarded to the participants. It is worth mentioning that this course started on (28/6) and concluded on (23/8), with a total of more than (24) study hours.














A joint scientific activity between the Zakat Al-Elim Foundation and the Law Department at cihan University in Sulaimani… On Saturday at 12 pm, the Zakat Al-Elim Foundation organized, in collaboration with the Law Department, a seminar for His Excellency Judge Talib Majid Sharif, Judge of Sulaimani Court 4, titled: Personal Status Law Between Texts and Applications Related to Inheritance. Dr. Nuri Hamah Said presented a theoretical discussion on the topic, and then the guest judge clearly spoke about the practical aspect and how the court deals with those texts. After that, Mr. Dr. Ismail Najmuddin Namik, Head of the Law Department at cihan University, hosted the distinguished guest, which is one of the activities of the World University in Sulaimani.








Aiming to spread legal awareness among a group of preparatory and secondary school students, two law students, Perjin Ahmed and Sarehang Azaddin, delivered a seminar to students at Junior Non-Governmental School.
The seminar focused on laws related to (the Law on Prohibition of Misuse of Communication Devices, the Law on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, and parts of the Penal Code concerning crimes of defamation, slander, and assault).




Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation organized a workshop in cooperation with the Department of Architecture and the Department of Law entitled: “Housing Projects between Design, Contracts and Implementation”, in which the participants in the symposium spoke about housing projects in three different axes.
In the first axis, Mr. Assistant Lecturer. Architect (Barham Abdullah) spoke about the design of housing projects in terms of changing the general plan of the site (site plan), international standards, quality control of building materials, and points that buyers of housing units should pay attention to.
After that, Mr. Counselor Lawyer (Araz Kamal Muhammad) shed light in the second axis on contracts and points that cause lack of clarity in contracts, buyers’ rights, how to file complaints, and their procedures.
In the third axis, Ms. Civil Engineer (Chanar Ghaleb Muhammad) shed light on the problem of residents and service standards, and the impact of changing the general plan of the site on their lives.
At the end of the activity, certificates of appreciation were presented to the participants by the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, the Director of the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation, and the Head of the Department of Architecture.











Monday 21/4/2025, the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation in collaboration with the Law Department organized a seminar for the honorable Judge (Rizgar Muhammad Amin), titled: “Rights of the Accused in Criminal Cases.”
During the seminar, he highlighted the rights of the accused during arrest and investigation phases, as well as the principles of the Criminal Procedure Law.
This activity comes as part of a series of joint activities conducted by the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation and the Law Department together. It is worth noting that a significant number of professors and students attended this seminar.










A workshop for law students will be conducted by Qasim Abbas Chomani, a criminal legal investigator, on January 25, 2025.
