On Monday, January 12, 2026, students from the Department of Business Administration at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an awareness campaign to inform the community about the dangers of using narcotic substances, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about drug abuse and promoting ways to protect individuals from its harmful effects.
The academic staff of the department, together with the students, first prepared printed brochures titled “The Risks of Using Narcotic Substances and Methods of Self-Protection.” The brochures included important information about the harmful effects of drug use and ways to prevent it. Drug use causes serious damage to the brain, heart, and nervous system, increases rates of crime and violence, and leads to the breakdown of family relationships. The brochures also outlined several methods of self-protection, such as learning about the dangers of drugs, staying away from drug sources, and firmly refusing drugs when they are offered.
As part of this activity, a group of students visited Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hevi Mohammed Qadir. They distributed awareness brochures to citizens and visitors and encouraged them to act more responsibly and consciously in order to help build a healthy and informed society.
In a practical step to serve the community, and under the auspices of the Head of the Business Administration Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Hawkar Qasim Berdawood, Assistant Professor Dr. Qusay Hamid Al-Salami, accompanied by a group of first-year students, made a field visit to Kharaba Daraw Primary School in Khabat-Erbil district, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
The delegation was warmly received by the school principal, Ms. Karout Bashtiwan Danha, and members of the teaching staff, who explained during a field tour the most urgent needs of the school. These needs included urgent maintenance work for the classrooms, which suffer from serious wall cracks that threaten the safety of students and teachers, in addition to the need for safe electrical wiring, painting work, and a complete replacement of broken windows in all the classrooms.
This voluntary initiative aims to establish a genuine partnership between the university and the local community.
As part of the Zakat Al-Ilm Foundation’s programs at Cihan University-Duhok, a specialized workshop was held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, for fourth-year students in the departments of (English Language and Psychology), in cooperation with the Directorate of Preparation and Training in Duhok.
The workshop aimed to prepare students for the field application phase in schools, and included a series of high-quality lectures presented by a select group of specialized professors:
1. م. هـ. بدر جمال جمعة: تناول استراتيجيات إدارة الصف وكيفية التعامل مع المواقف الحرجة.
2. م. هـ. رعد عبدالمجيد يوسف: ركز على أخلاقيات المهنة وبروتوكولات التعامل مع الوسط المدرسي.
3. م. عمر إسكندر عمر: استعرض آليات التخطيط الفعّال للدروس وصياغة الأهداف السلوكية.
4. م. هـ. موسى حسين موسى: سلّط الضوء على استراتيجيات التواصل الحديثة وتوظيف الوسائل السمعية والبصرية في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the field application forms were officially distributed to the students present, in preparation for commencing their training duties in educational institutions.
On Sunday, 27th April 2025, fourth-stage students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil visited Gasha Private High School , affiliated with Cambridge Educational Services. The visit, supervised by departmental staff, was part of the university’s community outreach efforts.
The students were warmly received by the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Aata Latif Muhammad. During the visit, the university students delivered a dynamic and informative seminar titled “Share: Vaping and Smoking”, aimed at raising awareness among high school students about the harmful effects of tobacco and e-cigarette use.
The seminar not only addressed the health risks but also offered practical strategies for quitting smoking and vaping. It highlighted available support resources and emphasized the long-term benefits of adopting a smoke-free lifestyle. The session encouraged open dialogue, with students actively participating and asking thoughtful questions.
This activity reflects the department’s dedication to applying theoretical knowledge to real-life health education and reinforces Cihan University-Erbil’s commitment to promoting public health and student engagement within the local community.
Cihan University–Duhok staff at the Badrkhani General Library
Under the supervision and patronage of the highly respected President of Cihan University–Duhok, on Saturday, 6/12/2025, and within the Scientific Awareness Program, and through the work of the committee formed by the University Presidency, an activity was held to raise the level of awareness about violence against women and the family. This activity was part of the events of the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Families, which run from 25/11/2025 to 10/12/2025. In coordination with the Badrkhani Library and the “Supporters of Reading Books” (SRB) group, and with the participation of M.H. Dozdar Mahdi, M.H. Badr Jamil, and M.H. Ammar Jassim, a seminar was presented entitled:
“Violence Against the Family from Legal, Digital, and Psychological Perspectives.” This activity reflects the university’s commitment to fulfilling its academic and social role in spreading a culture of human rights, promoting sustainable development, and supporting national and governmental efforts to reduce all forms of violence against women and families.
Delivering the last lesson in the English language course in Derlok district In line with Cihan University’s commitment to fostering academic and social engagement, the Scientific Zakat Center, in collaboration with the university’s General Education Department and English Language Department, opened an English language course for youths in the Deraluk district. This initiative exemplifies the university’s core values of community service, as the center encourages both instructors and graduates to share their expertise and contribute to the community by undertaking diverse activities, on August 8th, 2024 another lecture was presented, on general culture, which was presented by (Mr.Hejar Ali).
The Department of General Education has completed a general education course for students of Cihan College School On 7th of August, 2024, continuing the program of Zakat Al-Ilm at Cihan University-Duhok, Department of General Education concluded a general education course for students of Cihan college school. The course continued for a week. Several topics related to building students’ personalities, the importance of language, educational and psychological aspects were presented by expert lecturers
On August 6th, 2024, within the programs of “Zakat Al-Ilm” at Cihan University-Duhok, continuing the training and educational course for the inmates of Teenagers and Women’s Rehabilitation Center in Duhok, which is organized by the Faculty of Law at Cihan University-Duhok in cooperation with the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Duhok, where a seminar was presented by Professor Dr. Ismail Ababakr Bamarni “On Domestic Violence, Its Causes and Treatment Methods” for female inmates
The Human Development Course has come to an end in Zakho city, by General Education Department As part of the “Zakat Al-Ilm” program, the Department of General Education hosted a human development course for 30 women and girls at the Kurdistan Women’s Union headquarter in Zakho, on August 11th, 2024, course has come to an end. The course, featured expert university instructors, covered a range of essential topics including: 1. Innovative English learning methods and the language’s role in career advancement and overall human development. (Mr. Mohammed Faisal). 2. “Social Media and Technology and their Impact on Youth and How to Protect Yourself from Cyber Attacks” (Dr. Salar Faisal). 3. “Psychological disorders and social problems and how to treat them” (Mr. Ali Abdulqadir). 4. “General Education Awareness”(Mr. Hazhar Ali). 5. “Self-identification and psychological awareness”(Mr.Bader Jamal Jumaa).
The Department of General Education conducts a human development course in cooperation with the Duhok Center of the Women’s Union
On July 22nd, 2024, with the support of the University President, Professor. Dr. Zeravan Abdulmuhsen Asaad, and in continuation of the “Zakat Al-Ilm” program at Cihan University – Duhok, the Department of General Education, in coordination with the Duhok Center “Kurdistan Women’s Union”, launched a human development course on “Educational and Psychological Awareness, Drugs, the Phenomenon of Suicide, and General Culture”, for a number of girls.
The course, which lasts for a week, included several lectures presented by:
1. Mr. Hejar Ali on: “The Importance of Self-Education and General Culture”.
2. Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdul Karim Shaaban on: “Principles and Importance of Methods and Tools for Learning the English Language”.
3. Colonel Hemin Suleiman on: “Using Communication Devices and Social Media”.
